00:00:12,000 --> 00:00:30,000
Welcome back!

2
00:00:31,000 --> 00:00:57,000
Emmanuela, kannst du einmal kurz erklären, was Tea Readings sind und was man da macht?

3
00:00:58,000 --> 00:01:32,000

4
00:01:43,000 --> 00:02:11,000
Unser Spiel heißt What are you going to bring? Also wenn wir zum Beispiel sagen We want to go to a Picknick.

5
00:02:12,000 --> 00:02:23,000
Now we have to bring something with a P, right? Because picnic has a P in it. Then I'm gonna bring peanut butter, for example.

6
00:02:25,000 --> 00:02:41,000
Alright, Emmanuela, our event is a book club meeting, but we'll just stay with book club. So, what are you going to bring to the book club that starts with a B?

7
00:02:44,000 --> 00:03:06,000
Okay, so I'm going to bring a bestseller book. So, for example, maybe one of the Harry Potter books, something like that. That's nice, that's a good idea. Okay, the second letter is an O. It's a difficult one, but Anne, can you think of something with O?

8
00:03:07,000 --> 00:03:26,000
Yeah, so we're staying with Harry Potter here a little bit. I want to bring an owl to the book club. If you don't have an owl, you can bring a dog or a cat or any other pet that you like. But I'm gonna bring an owl to the book club. Okay.

9
00:03:27,000 --> 00:03:56,000
Okay, we have a B and O. The next letter in book is also an O. So, Emmanuela, what are you going to bring to the book club that starts with an O? I'm going to bring an oversized jumper, because that way I can feel comfortable and I'm wearing something that makes me feel comfortable, that makes me feel at ease or...

10
00:03:57,000 --> 00:04:18,000
Yeah, that's it. Very cozy. Okay. The last letter of the word book is a K. A K is also a tricky one. But I want to bring a kitschy bookmark with me. You know, something with lots of like colors on it and flowers maybe and something like that. Sounds great. Good idea.

11
00:04:19,000 --> 00:05:19,000
Okay, moving on to the second part of Book Club, which is the club. Emmanuela, what are you going to bring? That starts with a C. Oh, I can come up with a lot of words here. For example, cupcakes, coffee, cookies. So some snacks and drinks, definitely. Maybe also a candle to make it a really nice atmosphere. Okay. And then let's move on to L. Anne, what are you going to bring that starts with L? I'm going to bring a lamp so I can see the book and what I'm trying to read. Very good idea. The next one is a U. Oh, there aren't many options with you, I think, but I can come up with umbrella, which can be useful maybe if it starts raining on the way to the book club.

12
00:05:22,000 --> 00:05:23,000
And the last one, B.

13
00:05:25,000 --> 00:05:53,000
Another B. Another B. So, I think I can bring biscuits if I want more snacks. Or I think it's always a good idea to bring your best friend to the book club with you. Oh yes, I agree. Very nice. Alright, and with that we've reached the end of our game. And we are moving on to part two, The Monthly Mysteries.

15
00:06:14,000 --> 00:06:44,000
A theft means that you are stealing something. So it's Diebstahl in German. Rare. There's not much of something or you don't do it often. Selten. The value of something is the importance of it. And in German we say Wert. Forgery. A fake version of something. So when somebody copies an original.

16
00:06:47,000 --> 00:07:01,000
Glue sticks things together and is called Klebstoff in German. Damage. When you break something, you cause damage. Schaden. Allegedly.

17
00:07:15,000 --> 00:07:28,000
So, something might be true, because someone said it, but you are not certain that it's true. Another word could be maybe, supposedly.

18
00:07:29,000 --> 00:07:29,000
Angeblich. Angeblich.

19
00:07:43,000 --> 00:08:36,000
So, first of all, I have a question for you. What do you think, when was the biggest library theft? That's a very difficult question. I have no idea, but my guess would be maybe in the 1800s. That's a good guess. It was, however, between 2022 and 2023, and it's called the Pushkin Job. Okay, and what happened? Well, over 170 rare editions of books written by Russian authors were stolen from libraries all over Europe. That includes libraries in Poland, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia,

20
00:08:36,000 --> 00:08:41,000
France, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, and Germany.

21
00:08:42,000 --> 00:09:00,000
Wow, that’s a ton of libraries. And the books are worth over 2.5 million pounds, like around 2.9 million euros. That’s crazy. How did they even steal the books?

22
00:09:03,000 --> 00:09:19,000
Well, not with like explosions and lots of drama. The criminals used fake identities for the library cards and they replaced the stolen books with quite bad. However,

23
00:09:35,000 --> 00:10:03,000
The stolen books were very old and the glue for the magnetic strips could damage the paper. So these books had no magnetic strips and the criminals just, you know, they asked to see these rare editions of the books, distracted the library employee, took the book and walked out. Wow. And why is it called the Pushkin Job?

24
00:10:05,000 --> 00:10:31,000
That's because many of the books were written by Alexander Pushkin, who is a poet and playwright from the 19th century. And he, I think he was not that popular internationally. However, Russian soldiers put up pictures of him in cities they occupied in Ukraine. Do we know who stole the books?

25
00:10:42,000 --> 00:11:18,000
Some of the thieves were arrested by the police for a variety of reasons. One was a Georgian antique dealer and also his daughter-in-law. We don't really know yet. There might be a connection to Russia, because the books were allegedly sold via a Russian auction house. But all traces of that have been deleted from the Internet and the Russian auction house is not very willing to give up information on that.

26
00:11:20,000 --> 00:11:46,000
Yeah, that's a summary of the story. If you want to know more about this mysterious case, check out the links in the description below. It includes one article published in The Guardian and a YouTube video about the Pushkin Heist. A very interesting YouTube video. So check them out if you want to know more about this case.

27
00:12:06,000 --> 00:12:17,000
And with that, we've reached the end of today's episode. Before we let you move on with your day, we have two announcements to make.
