00:00:12,000 --> 00:00:43,000
Hello and welcome to the LernOase Lounge with Emanuela and Anne. Hey there, and welcome to our new episode of the LernOase Lounge podcast. Summer break is coming up soon, so I’ve got my first question for today: Dear Emanuela, what are your top three vacation spots?

2
00:00:46,000 --> 00:01:17,000
Hey Anne, hey everyone, thanks for tuning in today. So, talking about my top three vacation spots—you know I’m all about summer, right Anne? Yeah, totally. I’m a summer, sunshine, beach, and ocean kind of person. So, my top three vacation spots are all about that vibe. Number one has to be Florida in the USA, especially Miami.

3
00:01:17,000 --> 00:01:48,000
But Florida’s got a bunch of other beautiful places too, like Key West, for example. Yeah, white sandy beaches, lots of sunshine. I mean, it’s tropical, so it rains sometimes, but it’s still my favorite spot, my number one. Number two is the Canary Islands in Spain. I’m definitely an island girl. There are eight Canary Islands.

4
00:01:48,000 --> 00:02:18,000
They’re all really, really different. My favorite is definitely Lanzarote, of course. But each one has its own unique charm. And my third favorite is Hawaii in the US – also islands. Yeah, I went there once. It was incredible. I saw colors like I’d never seen before. Yeah.

5
00:02:18,000 --> 00:02:51,000
It's awesome. Yeah, it’s a super long trip, but totally worth it. So if you ever wanna travel far, I’d say hit up Hawaii. Cool, that sounds really amazing. Wow. Speaking of vacation, what are your top three things you always pack? Alright, I think my number one has gotta be headphones.

6
00:02:51,000 --> 00:03:23,000
I travel a lot by train and use public transport all the time. I think it’s really important to have headphones so you can block out the noise around you. I also just love chilling on the beach, listening to music, and watching the ocean – that’s the best. Oh, and I always need my sunglasses because if it’s sunny and I don’t have them, I can’t see a thing.

7
00:03:23,000 --> 00:03:57,000
I start crying and then I can’t see a thing. It’s awful. So, I usually bring two pairs of sunglasses. Also, my sister recently brought one of those cute little crossword puzzle books on our vacation last year, and now I’m hooked. Unfortunately, I need crossword puzzles on my vacation—pretty cool!

8
00:04:01,000 --> 00:04:33,000
Emmanuela, what don’t you take with you on vacation? Oh, uh, I’d say my laptop, actually. Yeah, I don’t take my laptop because it feels like a goodbye, like I’m saying goodbye to work. I don’t want to work, I don’t want to check my emails, I really don’t need it. I think it’d just stress me out more knowing it’s somewhere around, like if I left it in the hotel lobby or something, who knows, no way.

9
00:04:34,000 --> 00:05:08,000
Alright, got it, got it. Sounds like you’ve got a pretty good work-life balance going on. Okay, let’s stick to our topic of summer holiday, summer vacation, and keep going with a game. But before we start our game, here are some important words for this episode.

10
00:05:10,000 --> 00:05:41,000
I don’t mind. A destination is just a place you wanna go, so in German it’s called a Reiseziel. Bit tricky. When something’s tough, it’s tricky.

11
00:05:41,000 --> 00:06:14,000
Tricky. A curious person wants to know everything and is curious. When you spill water on the floor, it makes a puddle. Do you want to stay updated?

12
00:06:14,000 --> 00:06:45,000
Then follow LernOase on Facebook, Instagram, sign up for our newsletter, or join our WhatsApp channel. Our game is called Would You Rather, and it’s pretty simple. You ask “Would you rather” and give two options, and the other person has to pick one. You can’t say “both,” that’s not allowed. Alright, let’s jump right into the first question.

13
00:06:47,000 --> 00:07:28,000
And this one goes to you, dear Anne: Would you rather go on a road trip or a cruise? I'd pick a road trip. I’m not a fan of boats, so the road trip it is for me. And the next question is for you, dear Emanuela: Would you rather go somewhere warm but rainy, or somewhere cold but sunny? Well, I really like tropical weather, so I don’t mind it being warm and rainy—I’d definitely choose that.

14
00:07:28,000 --> 00:08:01,000
I really hate the cold, so it’s gotta be warm. Warm but rainy? That’s cool with me. Got it. Okay, next question. Would you rather only be able to travel to new places, or only go back to your favorite spots? Let me put it another way: if you travel, every time it’s somewhere you’ve never been before.

15
00:08:02,000 --> 00:08:37,000
Or just stick to your favorite spots when you travel. Going back only to the places you love is kinda tricky because I’m curious and like checking out new places, but I also tend to stick with what I know. Honestly, for a holiday or vacation, I’d probably just go back to my favorite places.

16
00:08:37,000 --> 00:09:07,000
Alright, I like the next question. Would you rather leave your phone or your wallet at home? Honestly, that’s easy for me ‘cause I always have my phone on me. So, I’d much rather forget my wallet. Yeah, as long as I’ve got my phone, I’m good without money.

17
00:09:08,000 --> 00:09:38,000
I don’t need to spend money, so if I forget my wallet, it just means I can’t spend any cash—and that’s totally fine with me. What do you think about that? That’s interesting. For me, it’s the other way around, actually. I’d rather forget my phone and have my wallet with me. You know, then I can still pay for a coffee, but, uh, people can’t call or text me. Sometimes I like that, you know?

18
00:09:39,000 --> 00:10:09,000
Alright, the next one’s for you. Would you rather stay in a treehouse or an underwater hotel? Definitely a treehouse. That was fast. I had a treehouse when I was a kid and loved it, plus I’d be way too scared in an underwater hotel. I wouldn’t trust that place at all. So yeah, definitely a treehouse.

19
00:10:09,000 --> 00:10:43,000
Yeah. So, next question’s for you. Would you rather go to a museum or a local restaurant? Hmm, that’s a tough one because I like both. But if I had to pick, I’d probably go with a restaurant since I love trying new local food.

20
00:10:43,000 --> 00:11:27,000
Yeah, I really like eating, so I’d pick the restaurant. Okay, how about you? That’s cool. I think I’d check out the museum. But honestly, it’s a tough choice. And that’s it for our game. Now, on to the monthly mystery. Finally, Amy turns off her car and smiles.

21
00:11:27,000 --> 00:12:05,000
In front of her is a small beach house with white walls and green windows. The flowers in the front yard are blooming even though it’s been dry. Amy gets out of the car, grabs her hose, and walks up to the house. She can smell the salty lake air and hear the nearby woods. Spending time at this beach house with her friends Laura, Sandy, and James three years ago was an amazing idea.

22
00:12:07,000 --> 00:12:44,000
James, or writerjames007 on social media, is a writer she met at college. He’s not into people or going out and just wanted a quiet spot to work on his new books. Laura and Amy have been friends since they were kids. Amy was Laura’s bridesmaid a couple of years ago. Every summer, Laura and her husband Larry spend a week or two chilling at their beach house.

23
00:12:44,000 --> 00:13:16,000
Sandy, or Sandy the Surfer Girl, used to work with Amy but quit a year ago to become an online health coach. She’s really into surfing and was super excited when Amy mentioned the beach house idea. But now, after a five-hour drive, Amy’s worn out. She swings open the front door and heads inside.

24
00:13:16,000 --> 00:13:50,000
She stepped over a huge puddle of water and sand in the hallway, set her suitcase down next to the wardrobe, and switched on the lights. It was evening and getting dark outside. The bedroom looked neat, the bathroom was clean, and all the windows were shut. Everything was fine. Now, all Amy wanted was a glass of water and a nap on the big, comfy couch.

25
00:13:50,000 --> 00:14:28,000
She walks into the kitchen and opens the blue cupboard where they keep the glasses. Then Amy just stares. She shuts the cupboard, waits about 10 seconds, and opens it again, but there are still no glasses. The cupboard’s totally empty. How’s that even possible? When Amy was at the house two months ago, there were at least 15 glasses for water or juice and 10 wine glasses too.

26
00:14:29,000 --> 00:15:05,000
Maybe one of her friends was at the house and moved the glasses somewhere else? Amy checks everywhere—the kitchen, the bathroom, the hallway, even the bedroom. No glasses. An hour later, Amy’s sitting on the couch, angrily sipping wine from her coffee mug. She types a message in the group chat: Hey everyone, hope you’re all doing well and enjoying the summer.

27
00:15:05,000 --> 00:15:36,000
I'm at the beach house, but I can't find the glasses. Where are they? James, username writerjames007, is the first to reply. Hey Amy, I'm good, but I really hate summer. It's way too hot. I’m just staying home all day. How about you? No clue where the glasses are, sorry.

28
00:15:37,000 --> 00:16:09,000
I don’t use those ‘cause I only drink coffee and tea. Hope you find them soon. A minute later, Sandy the Surfer Girl replies. Hey guys, just got to the surfing championship. It’s awesome. Not sure where the glasses are, sorry. Haven’t had any time off work in the past six months. Amy puts her phone down.

29
00:16:09,000 --> 00:16:41,000
If James and Mary didn’t take the glasses, then Laura must be the thief. But Amy isn’t convinced. Laura and Larry’s baby, Lucy, was born just a month ago, and Amy can’t believe they’ve already gone on a summer beach vacation. Two hours later, Laura replies to Amy’s message, saying she loves Larry. “Hey, dear friends. Sorry for the late reply.”

30
00:16:41,000 --> 00:17:17,000
I'm trying to get Lucy to fall asleep. It's quite the ordeal, let me tell you. I have no idea where the glasses are. The last time we were at the beach house was last year. Hope you find them soon, Amy. Amy heads to the kitchen and looks at the empty cupboard. One of her friends has to be lying. But who?

31
00:17:17,000 --> 00:17:48,000

32
00:17:50,000 --> 00:18:21,000

33
00:18:22,000 --> 00:18:53,000
Wenn du deine Sommerferien lieber draußen an der frischen Luft verbringen willst, ist das Waldcamp mit Melody wahrscheinlich genau das Richtige für dich. Los geht’s am 3. August in Königs Luther. Nach den Ferien haben wir außerdem jede Menge neue Kurse am Start. Darunter Anfängerkurse in Chinesisch und zwei intensive Spanisch-Intensivkurse.
